Death of David Barron

In a late paper, we copied a paragraph respecting the deceased David Barron, late officer of Excise in Aberlour, whose body was found in the Spey, about two miles above Fochabers. - It was therein stated, that strong suspicions existed "of his death not happening altogether accidentally".  For the satisfaction of the public, we have to mention, that very soon after Mr Barron's body was discovered, the Sheriff-substitute of the county of Elgin, accompanied by the Collector of Excise for the district, and the Procurator Fiscal, proceeded to the immediate neighbourhood of the place where the deceased lost his life, and made a most minute investigation into the causes of his death, from which it satisfactorily appeared that his death was entirely occasioned by accident.

Easter Cammeleggie farm

FARM TO LET.

THE FARM of EASTER CAMMELEGGIE, in the Parish of Drumblade, presently occupied by Wm. Lamb, is to be Let, with entry at Whitsunday next.  It contains about 60 Acres, mostly Arable, and has lately been much improved by Draining, and good roads.

Offers will be received by Mr Shand, Conland; and by Mr Lawson, at Oldmills of Elgin, until Monday the 18th day of May curt. on which day it is proposed to Let it on the Ground, at 12 o'clock.  The present tenant will shew the marches.

John McPherson, Gordonstown

NOTICE TO CREDITORS.

Those to whom the deceased JOHN McPHERSON, late Gardener at Gordonstown, stand indebted at the time of his death, are requested to lodge their Claims, with oaths of veracity thereon, in the hands of James Thomson, Writer in Elgin on or before the 25th curt.; Certifying to such as fail to do so that they will be cut out of any share of the deceased's Funds, which will immediately thereafter be divided.

John Forbes, escaped prisoner

ESCAPE FROM THE JAIL OF ELGIN.

WHEREAS, JOHN FORBES, Ship Carpenter, last at Fochabers, incarcerated at the instance of the Procurator of the Sheriff Court of Elginshire, effected his Escape from the Jail of this place, on Friday evening the 24th current.

The Magistrates of Elgin hereby offer

A REWARD OF FIVE GUINEAS,

to any person who shall apprehend and secure the said John Forbes; besides all expences incurred on his apprehension, to be paid by the Town Treasurer.

Description. - The said John Forbes is about 5 feet 9 inches high; dark complexioned, black hair, black eyes, with arched eye-brows, about 22 years of age, an active figure; and had on, at the time of his escape, a long blue coat, and grey trowsers.

NOTICE.

To the DEBTORS of the late JOHN GORDON, Baker in Forres,

And INTENDED SALE of his ESTATES in MORAY and BANFFSHIRE.

CHARLES GORDON, second Son, and universal Disponee and Executor, nominated by the said JOHN GORDON, earnestly requests, in compliance with the desire of the Creditors, that all those INDEBTED to the deceased, will make immediate payment to him, to prevent unnecessary expense.  Mr. GORDON also begs to intimate, that how soon his Titles are completed to his Father's Estates, and other Property, the whole, or greater part thereof, will be Sold in LOTS, to be afterwards described; meantime, intending purchasers may please apply to him, at Forres, or to THOMAS SELLAR, Esq. of Westfield, writer in Elgin, for further information.

Nether Mains of Davidstown, Cairnie

FARM TO LET.

In the Parish of Cairney, Aberdeenshire.

THE NETHER MAINS of DAVIDSTOWN, as lately possessed by Mr ARCHIBALD MILNE, and now by his heirs, consisting of about forty arable acres, and some pasture.

This farm was all well limed some years ago; and has since been laboured in a five-shirt rotation, in which it is at present; and the greater part of it inclosed.

There is a large commodious and substantial Dwelling House, with a complete Steading of Offices on the premises.  Such a situation for a Gentleman wishing a convenient residence, is seldom to be met with; and will be let for eight or nine Crops, entry immediately, or at Whitsunday next.

Garmouth: lots of land

SUBJECTS AT GARMOUTH FOR SALE

To be sold, together or separately, as offerers incline, by public roup, within the house of John Anderson, vintner in Garmouth, on Wednesday the 9th December first,

THOSE Two LOTS of LAND, at the Seaport of GARMOUTH, with the large House, Kitchen, and Cellar, built thereon, which lately belonged to John Cumming, late Merchant in Garmouth, now to his creditors.

The Buildings are commodious, and the soil is of a good quality.  The subjects hold feu of the Duke of Gordon; but pay no feu-duty; it having been transferred by Mr Cumming, to another subject sold by him; and the other public burdens are very trifling.

Roup of cattle at Scarfbanks, Elgin

ROUP OF CATTLE,

AT SCARFBANKS, NEAR ELGIN.

There are to be sold by public roup, at the farm of SCARFBANKS, on Tuesday the 3d day of December next,

SIXTEEN MILCH COWS; a famous BULL; Thirteen STOTS of two years old, Four STOTS of one year old, Two QUEYS of two years old, Eight QUEYS of one year old; and Sixteen CALVES; all brought up on that farm by the late Mr JOHN BRANDER, who took a peculiar pleasure in having the best breeds of animals of the above description, and keeping them in the highest order and condition.

The roup to begin at 12 o'clock.  Credit will be given.

**The Relations of the deceased Mr JOHN BRANDER being desirous to ascertain the claims against his estate, request that all persons to whom he is indebted will lodge notes of such claims and oaths of verity thereon, with Robert Grigor, writer in Elgin.

Trial of Scythe in Moray

On the 2d August, the Morayshire Farmer Club had a SCYTHE mounted with a CRADLE for cutting and gathering Corn, tried in a Field of Barley in their presence.  A Model of this implement was procured from Wales, (where, and in the Western Counties of England it is generally used) by Mr JAMES WILLIAMSON, Millwright at Pittendreich, near Elgin, under whose direction this Scythe was mounted.  The experiment fully answered the expectations formed, and convinced every one present that this Scythe is much better calculated to cut corn and lay it over in a regular manner, than any of the others which have hitherto been introduced in this county.  One great advantage is the simplicity of its construction, as a common Smith can in a short time mount the Cradle on any Scythe.  The original is now deposited with the Secretary of the Morayshire Farmer Club, to act as a pattern for the Members, or any Gentleman who may apply for it.
