Buckie: Police Court

Before Bailie Hendry yesterday, Donald Robertson and John Noble, labourers, were fined 2s. 6d. each, or 24 hours, for being drunk and incapable.  A similar fine was imposed on Michael Baker, labourer, for a contravention of the Police Act.  John Hay, carter, Seafield Street, Cullen, pleaded guilty to working a bay mare by causing it to draw a lorry while suffering from a suppurating sore underneath the saddle.  He was fined 16s., or five days.

Alexander Tod, Enzie

NOTICE TO CREDITORS

THE CREDITORS of ALEXANDER TOD, late in the Braes of Enzie, are requested to lodge their claims on his estate, with oaths of verity thereon, in the hands of William Gordon, writer in Keith, against the 15th of June next, - certifying to those who fail to do so, that they will not be entitled to any share of the funds in the trustees, a division of which will take place within the house of John Skinner, vintner in Keith, on Wednesday the 23d of June next, when all concerned will please attend, in order to receive their dividends, and discharge the trustees.

Buckie Tavern

THAT HOUSE in the town of BUCKIE, belonging to, and presently occupied by GEORGE SYMON as a TAVERN, together with the Malt Barn, Brew-house and Stable belonging to the same.

The house is commodious, and from its situation, is particularly well adapted for an Inn.  It has been much frequented as a Tavern for several years past, and is well worth the attention of Innkeepers.  The Purchaser may also be accommodated, with the Furniture and Brewing Utensils, at a fair valuation; and entry to the premises may be had at Whitsunday.

THE MAINS and MANSION-HOUSE of WALKERDALES, as presently possessed by Mr Jamieson, and those parts of the lands of NETHER BUCKIE, occupied by Alexander Donaldson, James Symon, Adam Garden, Matthew Paterson, Alexander Kemp, John Copland, Mrs Ogilvie, John Forbes, George Dustan, Mr Lobban, Alexander Geddes, Alexander Davidson, Mrs Sinclair, James Slater, George Symon, John Murray, John Saunders, James Green, Alexander Winster, William Bruce, Alexander Lamb, George Morison, William Geddes, Alexander Reid, John Geddes, John Winster, and George Paterson, will be let immediately, with entry to the whole at Whitsunday 1813.

N.B. - Such of the said possesions on the estate of Nether Buckie, as are situated at any distance from the Village, may be joined,and made convenient farms for desireable tenants; and the more contiguous lands will be let in small compact lots, for the accommodation of the villagers.  It is likewise proposed, to set apart several Stances for Houses and Yards in the Village, by way of Feu.

Rathven Kirk Session Minutes, 4th October 1812

The Session being met & Constitute Compeared on citation John Smith a married man accused of being the Father of Anne Howies Child, & He being exhorted in the presence of Anne Howie to make a fair & true confession, denied all connection with Her.  The Session taking this case under consideration agreed to summon both parties before the first meeting of Presbytery: and do summon them apud acta to attend the Presby., at Portsoy or Cullen the first Wednesday after 22d November next.  Sederunt closed with prayer.

Rathven Kirk Session Minutes, 27th September 1812

The Session being met & Constitute Compeared Anne Howie an unmarried Woman who confessed that she had lately brought forth a Child in adultery to John Smith in Rathven.  The Session therefore resolved to summon the said John Smith to compear before them on Sunday next, and ordered the said Anne Howie apud acta likewise to attend on that Day.  Sederunt closed with prayer.

Alexander Green, Tacksman at Letterfourie

SLATES FOR SALE

ALEXANDER GREEN, CLOCHAN, begs respectfully to return his thanks to his numerous friends and the public, and to inform them that at present he has on sale about 80,000 GREY SLATES, of very superior size and quality, principally dug from the Quarry of Oaxhill.

He continues to keep a constant supply at BUCKIE, PORT GORDON, or SPEYMOUTH, where Vessels calling will be supplied.  He will also execute orders from Elgin, Fochabers, &c. &c. on the shortest notice.

The quality of the Slate of LETTERFOURIE, of which A.G. is Tacksman, is well known to be superior; and he trusts his friends on a trial, will not be disappointed.

Orders addressed to A. Green, Clochan, by Fochabers, will meet with attention.

The Session being met & Constitute, Compeared Anne Bowie an unmarried Woman who confessed herself to be with child to John McLeod an unmarried man at present at Hardhaugh in the Parish of Keith.  The Session taking her case under consideration, resolved that their Moderator do write to the Minister of Keith on the subject to ask Him to summon the said John McLeod before his Session, & take his confession.  closed with prayer.

The Session being met & Constitute Compared on citation Christian Murchy a married woman, who says she came from the Parish of Boharm, that she is with child since Christmas last to James Littlejohn an unmarried man presently residing in Buckie.  She says she was married in Boharm to Francis Grant in that Parish, but they resided together but a very short time as man and wife, & that her said husband is since married viz at Martinmas last to a Woman named Katherine Dow: and that the said Ch. Murchy had one child before this since parting from her husband. The session therefore resolved to summon in James Littlejohn on sunday next before them: & summoned Christian Murchy apud acta likewise to attend on that Day.  Sederunt closed with prayer.

The Session being met & Constitute Compeared on citation Margaret Knight an unmarried Woman who confessed Herself to be with child to Alexr. McKenzie a married man in Buckie, who has acknowledged Himself by a Letter to the Session, to be the Father of her child.  The session taking this case under their consideration resolved to delay farther procedure thereon till the first Meeting of Presbytery for their advice.  Sederunt closed with prayer.

MILN AND FARM TO BE LET, IN THE ENZIE

The Miln, with the Multures, and Milntown of GOLLOCHY, as presently possest by Robert Murdoch, for a period of 19 years after Whitsunday next. -  The Miln is well frequented, and a tenant of capital and industry may keep her fully employed, in manufacturing Grain for the consumpt of the adjoining populous fishing towns of Buckie, Port Gordon, and others, from whence there is a constant demand for Meal.

The Milntown contains about 24 acres of excellent arable land, with nearly 8 acres of rich pasture grass, along the miln burn, &c.  All of which may be rendered most productive by the use of lime, now found at the place, and by the command of fisher's dung, and seaware, in the immediate neighbourhood.

Offers, in writing, may be made to Thomas Sellar, Writer in Elgin, between [now] and the 1st of March next; on which day attendance will be given at the Milntown to conclude a bargain.
