Prison sentences for trespass

At a Justice of Peace Court, held here, upon the 7th ult. the following delinquents, viz. William Morison, clerk to Mr Copland, Insurance Broker in Aberdeen, Peter Symmers, at Sclattie; Christian Symmers there; and several others (whose names are withheld on account of their personal respectability, and the contrition they evinced) were brought forward, upon a complaint at the instance of Mr Forbes of Seaton, which charged them with trespassing within his grounds, and with contravening various of the Statutes enacted for the protection of young trees.  After a full investigation of these charges, the Justice pronounced judgement against Morison, and the two Symmers, finding each of them liable in a penalty of L.10 sterling; and granting warrant to commit them to the Tolbooth of Aberdeen, there to be detailed for the space of six months, or until they should make payment of the penalties so awarded.  The other delinquents having confessed their error, were assoilzied, with Mr Forbes' consent, on payment of the actual expence of prosecution.

We think it right to make known the result of this case, as a warning to those who, under the pretence of seeking for bird's nests, and other purposes, are in the practice of entering private grounds in the neighbourhood of the town, and cutting and breaking down young trees.  Every one is interested more or less to put a stop to practices so wanton and mischievous; and we are glad to understand that a new prosecution is in forwardness against some others, for similar trespasses on the lands of Cotton.

ABOUT 10 Acres of very fine OATS, 5 Acres good TURNIPS, and 1 1/2 Acre excellent POTATOES, belonging to Mr DUGUID, at the Old House of Whitemyres.

The whole will be set up in such Lots as Purchasers may incline.  To those who purchase in Aberdeen, the Turnips will be drove to them.  The roup will begin on Monday the 16th, at 11 o'clock precisely. - Credit on security.

Roup at Newpark Farm, Newhills

SALE OF

Owing to the extensive stock of Cattle on hand at present, there will be sold by public roup, on Tuesday the 10th January 1815, at the Farm of Newpark, parish of Newhills, presently possessed by JAMES WATT,

ABOUT 40 head of FAT CATTLE; 2 pairs of excellent WORK HORSES, and a nice PONEY; about 4,000 Stones of Hay; some Ricks of CORN and FODDER; together with some Carts and Farming Utensils.  The roup to begin precisely at 10 o'clock forenoon, and credit will be given on security.

N.B. - His business in the Butcher Market will be carried on as formerly.

Anderson orphans, Newhills

ABERDEEN, 16th February, 1814,

TO THE BENEVOLENT.

ALEXANDER ANDERSON died in the prime of life, and was buried at New Hills, Saturday last.  His wife died yesterday morning, at their house on Middlefield, leaving seven children, the oldest not thirteen, the youngest of the seven six months old, (three of the children in fever) in great poverty, without any relation to care for them.  Some means must be adopted to assist the poor destitute family.

Any aid of the humane and generous Public is hereby resorted to, if a small fund could be raised to preserve the helpless orphans, as it is intended to send them to Kildrummy, from whence the family moved about three years ago, how soon a place can be obtained.

The aid to this helpless and destitute family of orphans will be thankfully received at the Banks: Athenaeum; News-rooms, Netherkirkgate and Quay; Mr Ewen's shop; Public Library; Baillie Brown and Messrs. Angus' shops.

The application of the contribution will be under the direction of John Niven of Thornton.

Borowstoun, Newhills

FARM TO LET.

THAT Farm on the Lands of BOROWSTOUN, and parish of Newhills, presently in the possession of ALEX. MEARNS - consists of 11 inclosures, in all about 18 Scotch Acres; is well improved, and in good heart, having been all occasionally in green crop within these few years.  It is situated only 6 English miles from Aberdeen, and is accommodated with plenty of moss and good spring water in many of the parks.  The fine house, containing 5 separate apartments and the office-houses, are substantial, and in good repair.  The whole will be let for twenty-one years and crops, from and after Whitsunday next.

MOST ELIGIBLE SITUATIONS FOR COUNTRY RESIDENCES OR SMALL FARMS

The Lands of CUTTLEHILL, situate in the parish, and county of Aberdeen, are to be FEUED, in small lots, of from Seven to Thirty acres each, as purchasers may incline.  These lands have been occupied by Mr JAMES WATT, Flesher in Aberdeen, for a considerable length of time; have undergone a regular rotation of cropping, and are at present in the highest state of cultivation.  The situation of the property is very pleasant, and being not quite four miles from town, with abundance of spring water to every part of it, as well as the privilege of casting and driving peats from the Town's Mosses, renders it an object worthy of attention.
