Accidental death of Alexander Crocket

Shocking Accident. - On Wednesday afternoon last, as a Country-man was coming down the Gallowgate, he was met, at the corner forming the entry to the Broad Street, by a cart loaded with timber; when, slipping his foot on the pavement, he unfortunately fell before the cart, one of the wheels of which passing over his head, fractured his skull in a shocking manner, so that he almost immediately expired.  The unfortunate sufferer was a man of the name of Alexander Crocket, well known for many years as a Carrier from Nether Banchory, and has left a Widow to lament his loss.

George Bruce victim of robbery

On Sunday morning last, about three o'clock, as George Bruce, the well-known Ellon Carrier, was coming to Aberdeen, he was stopped about three quarters of a mile beyond the Bridge of Don, by two men, who, after ordering him out of his cart and demanding his purse, rifled his pockets of the money they contained, between 30s. and 40s. in silver, and then took a bag of meal and four cheeses, all which they immediately carried off. - They were stout men, rather above the middle size, wore round hats, and long or great coats, and spoke the Aberdeen dialect.

Accidental death of James Mackie

On Wednesday night last, James Mackie, carrier betwixt Dundee and Aberdeen, was killed by the overturning of his cart, in the wood of Tealing, on the Forfar road, about six miles from Dundee.  It would appear the accident was occasioned by the cart coming in contact with one of those cairns of metal so frequently to be found ornamenting the sides of the highways, - but compelling the unfortunate traveller to traverse the many hills and dales with which the middle of the roads (in Forfarshire at least), are so charmingly diversified.  The deceased, who is supposed to have been walking alongside, was found below the cart, the neave of which had entered his back, and caused his immediate dissolution.  The accident was discovered by the howling of his dog.  The poor man has left a wife and large family to lament his loss.
