Alexander Farquhar, Rothes

TO BE SOLD OR SET,

THOSE TWO TENEMENTS in the VILLAGE of ROTHES, and County of Moray, situated in the most centrical place of said Village, belonging to and at present occupied by ALEXANDER FARQUHAR, Blacksmith.  The Houses are only two years old, and can accommodate a Merchant and Blacksmith.  On one of the Tenements there is an excellent Shop and Dwelling House, well adapted for a Merchant, and on the other a Blacksmith's Shop and Dwelling House, and all the Utensils for a Blacksmith, sufficient for Three Forges, can be sold along with the shop, and a better opening in a country village seldom occurs.  They will be sold or set together or separately as offerers may incline, and offers will be received by the said A. Farquhar, between this and the 1st January, 1819, on which day the whole will be disposed of, and god bargains may be expected, as the owner intends going out to America.

Mains of Orton

FARM IN THE COUNTY OF MORAY

To let from Whitsunday 1814, on a lease of 19 or 21 years,

THE MAINS of ORTON, as presently possessed by Mr Geddes, containing about 180 acres arable, and above 130 pasture, great part of which is improveable.

This farm is in a high state of cultivation, having been all thoroughly limed, and under a regular rotation of cropping.  There is a Dwelling House and Offices at present on the farm; but as an incoming tenant might incline other accommodation, a suitable allowance will be given.  A Meal Mill and Threshing Mill driven by weater, are immediately adjoining the above.  Every accommodation at entry will be given; and for farther particulars, application may be made to the Proprietor, at Orton House, by Fochabers; or to Mr Geddes, with either of whom offers may be lodged.

John Hosack, Mr Geddes's miller, will shew the lands, and point out the boundaries.

Rothes Kirk Session Minutes, 3rd May 1812

Session met & c.  Annent Joseph Mcdonald and Margt. Mantoch under Citation to this Diet, they were called, Margt. Mantoch compeared, and adhered to her former confession, the Man compeared not, Confessed also Ann Mantoch under citation, as a Witness in the above Cause, aged thirty three, and being purg[e]d of Mallice & partial Counsel, and being solemnly sworn, deponed that upon the Bridge of Spey, in a conference betwixt Joseph McDonald, and her Sister, the said Joseph McDonald declared, he would acknowledge to be Father of her Child, if it came to his time, he also said he would be damned the day he would refuse his own and depones this is the truth, and as She cannot write, impowers the Moderator to subscribe her Deposition, he hand touching the Pen.  As the Man had not compeared the Session thought proper to defer the Matter for some time.
