Parish of Nigg Ploughing Match

On the 14th ult. the Parish of Nigg Ploughing Match took place, when 16 ploughs (one of them drawn by a pair of oxen) started about 11 o'clock.  After completing their respective tasks, (two ridges) the judges found the whole work so correctly executed, and so far surpassing their expectations, that they found great difficulty in determining to whom the Prizes ought to be awarded, which after repeated inspections, they determined as follows:-  The first to George Mason, servant to Mrs Reith, North Lowerston; the second to Andrew Edward, son of Mr Wm. Edward, South Kirkhill; the third to Charles Kennedy, son of Alex. Kennedy, Tullos; the fourth to James Anderson, servant to Mr C. Innes, Upper Torry; the fifty to George Collie, servant to Mr Davidson of Balnagask.

Prison sentences for violent assault

For several successive days in January last, a number of idle and disorderly persons, consisting partly of boys, and partly of sailors, apprentice tradesmen, and others, assembled in the neighbourhood of Old Aberdeen, trespassing on the fields, throwing stones, annoying passengers, and otherwise disturbing the public peace.  Several of them were apprehended; and on Wednesday last, Alexander McLean and John Solomon, sailors, and William Forbes, apprentice cork-cutter, were convicted before the Sheriff, on the complaint of the Procurator Fiscal, of having been actively engaged in these riotous proceedings: and also of having committed a violent assault on James Anderson, gardener in Old Aberdeen, at whom they had taken offence, on account of his endeavouring to drive the mob off his grounds.  McLean was sentenced to confinement and hard labour in Bridewell for three months, and Solomon and Forbes for two months.  It is hoped, this example will operate as a salutory check to similar practices in time coming.

JAMES ANDERSON, alias CLARK, late Roadmaker, and who last contracted for repairing, and worked on the turnpike road betwixt Aberdeen and Stonehaven, accused of Horse-stealing, ABSCONDED lately; In order that he may be brought to justice,

A REWARD OF FIVE GUINEAS

is offered to any Person who shall apprehend and incarcerate him.  - The said Reward to be paid by the Procurator-Fiscal of Kincardineshire.

Anderson, alias Clark, as he sometimes assumes the one name, and at other times, the other, is a middle-sized man, with a full round face; had upon him when he committed the theft, a short Dark Blue Coat; a Dark Waistcoat; New Boots, with Nankeen Overalls.

Rig of land in Old Aberdeen

LAND TO BE LET.

There will be exposed to let, by public roup, on a LEASE for EIGHT YEARS, within the Trinity Hall, on Friday the 28th day of August curt, at six o'clock in the evening,

A RIG of LAND, lying on the east side of Old Aberdeen, belonging to James Milne's Mortification of the Tailor Trade of Aberdeen, formerly let in tack to James Boyle, now occupied by James Anderson.

The soil is of the best quality, and there is easy access to King Street.

Thomas Robertson, Orton

NOTICE TO CREDITORS

THOMAS ROBERTSON, late Servant at ORTON, having died in embarrassed circumstances, the few articles which he left were sold by public roup, under the authority of the Sheriff of Elginshire, and the proceeds lodged with the Sheriff Clerk for behoof of the Creditors: and JAMES ANDERSON, vintner in Banff, having lodged a claim for a preference on the whole proceeds, in payment of the Deathbed and Funeral Charges, the Sheriff pronounced an interlocutor, of which the following is a copy, and of which notice is hereby given to all concerned.

"Elgin, 27th May, 1811. - The Sheriff Substitute having considered this Petition, before proceeding to judge therein, in order that all the Creditors of the deceased Thomas Robertson may have an opportunity of lodging their grounds of debt, and being ranked on the funds of the Bankrupt now lodged with the Sheriff Clerk of this county, ORDAINS intimation to be made in the Aberdeen and Inverness Journals to the Creditors of the said Thomas Robertson, to appear and produce their grounds of debt, within three weeks from the date of such intimation, Certifying to them that if they fail in lodging their claims and grounds of debt, within that period, that they will be cut out from any share of the Bankrupt's funds."
