Garioch ploughing champions

We hear, that notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, the Ploughing Match, appointed by the Garioch Farmer Club, took place on the Farm of Cocklarachy, on the 21st of March last.  Twenty Ploughs started, and, after the horses and ploughs had been removed, the Judges came on the field, who having particularly examined every Lot, adjudged the Premiums as follows:-

The 1st Premium, being Three Guineas, and the Highland Society's Silver Medal, to Charles Burness, servant to Mr Webster, Mains of Laithers.

The 2d, Two Guineas, to James Hendry, servant to Mr Adam Thomson, Tallathrowie.

The 3d, Two Guineas, to Alexander Taylor, servant to Mr Webster, Mains of Laithers.

The 4th, One Guinea and a half, to Alexander McRobbie, servant to James Allardyce, Esq. of Boynsmill.

The 5th, One Guinea, to George Brodie, servant to James Allardyce, Esq. of Boynsmill.

The 6th, Half-a-Guinea, to William Wallace, servant to James Allardyce, Esq. of Boynsmill.

Altho' only twenty ploughs started, yet, had the weather been favourable, there was reason to have expected, that upwards of Forty would have been on the ground.

After the Ploughing Match, the Garioch Farmer Club, partook of a very excellent Dinner, prepared for them, by Mrs Mellis, Huntly; and the evening was spent with the greatest harmony and happiness.

Prizewinning Ploughmen

GARIOCH PLOUGHING MATCH.

We hear that this match took place at Pitbee, in the parish of Chapel of Garioch, on the 23d of March last.  Twenty-nine ploughs started: twenty-eight of which were drawn by pairs of horses, and one by a pair of oxen.  After the work was finished, and the ploughs had been removed, the Judges came on the field; and, having particularly examined every lot, adjudged the Premiums as follows, viz. :-

The first Premium, L.3 3s. and the Highland Society's Silver Medal, to Joseph Jolly, Thainston.

The second, L.2 2s. and the Highland Society's Silver Medal, to William Middleton, Netherthird.

The third, L.2 2s. to Peter Rough, Portston.

The fourth, L.1 11s. 6d, to William Allan, Freefield.

The fifth, L.1 1s. to Joseph Ord, Netherthird.

The sixth, 10s. 6d. to John Alexander, Balhagarty.

The ploughing was executed much to the satisfaction of the judges and gentlemen present, who were pleased to witness so clear an evidence of the improved state of this important part of agriculture.  After the match, the Garioch Farmer Club dined at Pitmachie, and spent the afternoon with the utmost conviviality. - Sir A. Garioch Ploughing Competition

The Ploughing Competition for the Premiums given by the Highland Society of Scotland, in the District of Garioch, book place on the Farm of Old Rayne, occupied by Mr James Philip, on Thursday the 27th October, when the Prized were awarded by the judges as follows -

1st, Three Guineas, and the Society's Silver Medal, to William Reid, servant to Mr Stephen, Conglass.

2d, Two Guineas, and a Silver Medal to William Anderson, servant to Mr Keith, Netherthird.

3d, Two Guineas, to Alex. Watson, servant to ditto.

4th, One Guinea and a Half, to John Geddes, servant to Mr Smith, Greenhall.

5th, One Guinea, to William Morrison, servant to Mr Jopp, Nether Boddom.

6th, One Half Guinea , to Peter Rough, Portstown.

The Ploughing was executed much to the satisfaction of the judges.  After the business, upwards of thirty Gentlemen dined together at Pitmachie; and passed the evening with that harmony and conviviality which ever attends Meetings having the agricultural interests of the country as their object.

Mains of Williamston

VALUABLE FARM IN THE GARIOCH TO LET.

ON Saturday the 30th of October, at 11 o'clock, forenoon, there will be Let, at Pitmachie, the Farm of MAINS of WILLIAMSTON, lately occupied by JOHN ROGER, with the adjoining possession lately occupied by Peter Wood, for a lease of 19 years from Martinmas first.  These Farms together consist of about 165 Scots acres, mostly arable, of excellent soil, well adapted for Turnip husbandry, and under proper cultivation capable of bearing every species of grain crop.  The distance from Aberdeen is 26 miles, from Inverury, where lime and colas may be always had by the Canal, 11 miles, and from Huntly 9 miles, and the turnpike road passes through the Farm.  On the premises there is a substantial steading, all covered with slate, and the Barn is adapted for a Threshing machine, with the benefit of water.

Offers in writing will, in the mean time, be received by Andrew Jopp, Advocate in Aberdeen, and the Rev. Mr Ellis, at Culsamond, will cause the boundaries of the Farm to be pointed out to enquirers.

Mains of Williamston, Culsalmond

VALUABLE FARM IN THE GARIOCH.

TO LET.

THE Farm of MAINS of WILLIAMSTON, occupied by John Roger; and the adjoining Farm occupied by Peter Wood; both in the parish of Culsalmond; and consisting together of about 165 acres, mostly arable, are to be let for such number of years as may be agreed on.

On the premises there are a Dwelling House of two stories, and a Steading of Offices, all substantially built of Stone and Lime, with Roofs of foreign wood covered with Slate.  The Barn is adapted for a Threshing Machine, with the benefit of water, of which there is a great command; and the Led is already cut.  These Farms are within 11 miles of the Inverury Canal; and the turnpike road leading to Huntly passes through them.

Offers in writing will be received by Charles Fraser Esq. the proprietor, Leith-walk, Edinburgh; or Andrew Jopp, Advocate in Aberdeen; and any of the neighbouring tenants on the estate of Williamston will point out the boundaries to enquirers.

Nethertown of Fetternear

FARM TO LET IN THE GARIOCH

The NETHERTOWN of FETTERNEAR, as lately possessed by JOHN and SETON HENDERSON; entry at Whitsunday next.  It consists of between two and three hundred acres, all arable, is within four miles of the canal, at Kintore and Inverury, and fifteen miles by the turnpike road from Aberdeen.  It will be let in two divisions, if desired, and every reasonable encouragement will be given to a substantial and improving tenant.

Also, the SLATE QUARRIES in FOUDLAND, to be entered at Martinmas next.

Newton of Meikle Wartle

FARMS AND CROFTS in the Garioch.

To be let for such a number of years as may be agreed on, with entry at Whitsunday first,

THE fine lying Farm of NEWTON of MEIKLE WARTLE, presently occupied by John Davidson; and the whole Township of Meikle Wartle, comprehending some hundred acres of the best land in the country, being now divided into commodious Farms, and small Crofts, will be let, for Entry at Whitsunday 1813 and 1814.

John Diack, jun. there, will shew the ground; and farther application may be made to the Proprietor at Newton.

GARIOCH PLOUGHING MATCH

The GARIOCH FARMER CLUB have appointed thier PLOUGHING MATCH, for this year, to be on Tuesday the 13th of November, on Mr SHEPHERD's Farm at Balcairn, near Old Meldrum. - Premiums will be given to the Three Best Performers, as usual.  - The Ploughs to start at 11 o'clock. - Any person allowed to be a Competitor, except those who have already got the First Premium. -- Dinner at Mr Barnett's at 3 o'clock.
