CIRCUIT INTELLIGENCE

The Circuit Court of Justiciary was opened at Inverness on Thursday last, by the Right Hon. the Lord Justice Clerk, when - Alexander Gillan, from the parish of Speymouth in Elgin-shire, accused of murder and rape, committed on the body of Elspet Lamb, a girl under eleven years of age, was brought to the bar.  The pannel pleaded not guilty, and after the examination of several witnesses the Jury were inclosed, and returned a verdict all in one voice, finding him guilty.

Fannie or Frances Manson, late servant to John Ross, Vintner in Tain, accused of child-murder and concealment of pregnancy, was next brought to the bar.  The Advocate Depute restricted the libel to an Arbitrary punishment, and the pannel pleaded guilty to the latter charge.

Alexander McDonald, tenant in Crochal, accused of sheep-stealing, was found guilty on his own confession, the Advocate-depute restricted the libel to an arbitrary punishment.

JAMES DOUGLAS, son of ROBERT DOUGLAS and JEAN YOUNIE, late in Overtown of Easter Elchies, in Knockando parish, is wanted to appear and receive his SHARE of a LEGACY left him by Mary McDonald, his mother-in-law, and that within twelve months from the date hereof, otherwise he loses his right by the foresaid deed.
