Ordiquhill Kirk Session Minutes, 27th June 1813

Session met &c. - Compeared Isobel Robertson and being interrogated whether she adhered to her former Confession in giving John Duncan as the father of her Child Answered that she did.  And added that the Child was begotten the first day of the New Year, this present Year 1813.  At same time compeared John Duncan, who being asked whether he was the Father of Is. Robertson's Child , Answered that he was not the Father of her Child but acknowledged guilt with her in her own house, Eleven Months before this date.  They both acknowledged being in the House of James Wilson who keeps an Ale house on the Roadside upon the first day of the New Year, and that said John Duncan conveyed Is. Robertson about half a mile above Ordings where she said the Child was begot.  Upon farther Consideration and reflection John Duncan acknowledged that he was the Father of the Child and craved of the Session that he might this day be Sessionally absolved.  The Session taking this under Consideration agreed to his request upon paying a penalty of twenty five Sh.  He said this was all he could afford, as he had an aged Mother to support.  The Session from their own conviction knew this to be true.  He paid the above Sum immediately to the Treasurer and was suitably exhorted, rebuked and absolved. - The said Is. Robertson was summoned Apud Acta to attend next Meeting of Presb[yter]y, as this was the fourth time She had been before the Session, for the Sin of fornication.
