Tragedy at sea

On Tuesday night last, Nicholas Paterson, a seaman, fell from on board the sloop Aid, in the harbour, into the tide, and after being some time in the water, and when ready to sink, was saved by the Mate of the vessel, who drew him up by means of a boat-hook, and thus rescued his companion from a fate, which he himself was soon to experience: for, next day, on the Aid sailing for London, when in the Bay, the Mate, of the name of Wishart, while preparing to take in the boat, fell overboard - and, before assistance could be afforded him, was carried off by the strength of the current, and unfortunately drowned.  He has left a Wife and two very young Children depending on him for support.

WISHART, ESSON, & CO

MOST respectfully inform the public in general, and their customers in particular, that they have made great Additions and Improvements to their MACHINERY at MILTON, near Keith, and at OLD KEITH, where they carry on the CARDING, SPINNING, WEAVING, and DYING of WOOL, WOOLLEN CLOTH, and YARN:  as also, the WAULKING, PRESSING, and CALLENDERING - They Clean and Dress Gentlemen's CLOATHS, ENGLISH BLANKETS, and SCARLETS.

They have for sale a large Assortment of BLANKETS, SEYS, SERGES, FLANNELS, &c. of their own manufacture at their shop, corner of the Square at Keith, where attendance is given every Friday, for taking in orders, cloth, yarn, &c. &c. ; and their customers, particularly those bringing wool from a distance, may depend upon the strictest attention and dispatch.  The bleachfield is also put in the completest repair, where Linen and Yarn are bleached, in the most approved manner, at the common prices, and people appointed in different places for taking in the same, as per hand-bills distributed through the county.
